Every weekend, we had the opportunity to go on cultural trips, allowing us to explore and immerse ourselves in the rich traditions, history, and local life of the Philippines. These trips were not just about sightseeing—they were a chance to experience the culture firsthand, from visiting historical landmarks and natural wonders to tasting authentic local cuisine.

Summary and Suggestion

The SEAMEO SEA Teacher Project offers pre-service teachers international teaching experience to enhance their professional and personal growth. The practicum helps participants develop teaching skills, communication abilities (especially in English), and cultural adaptability. It also fosters global citizenship and collaboration among educators from different countries.

At Central Luzon State University (CLSU), participants follow a structured program, starting with an orientation and campus tour. Their schedules include lesson planning, classroom teaching, and mentorship, along with off-campus educational tours and cultural exchange activities. The program concludes with a farewell event celebrating their achievements and experiences.

Procedure of Practicum

During the program, the participants' schedules are fully organized by the host institution, Central Luzon State University (CLSU), from their arrival to departure. The university carefully plans a series of activities to provide a well-rounded learning and cultural experience for the participants.

The program begins with an orientation session, where participants receive essential information about the university, its academic environment, and local customs. This is followed by a campus tour, allowing them to familiarize themselves with the facilities, classrooms, and teaching resources available at CLSU.

To enrich their experience beyond the university, off-campus educational tours are arranged every weekend, offering participants a chance to explore historical landmarks, cultural sites, and key educational institutions in the region. These excursions help them broaden their perspectives on education and culture in the Philippines.

The core of the practicum is the classroom teaching experience, where participants actively engage in lesson planning, instructional delivery, and classroom management under the guidance of mentor teachers. This hands-on experience enhances their teaching skills, adaptability, and confidence in an international setting.

Another highlight of the program is the cultural exchange activities, where participants have the opportunity to share their home country's traditions, cuisine, and performances, while also learning about Filipino culture and customs. These interactions foster mutual understanding and international friendships among participants and local students.

The program concludes with a farewell party, celebrating the participants' journey, achievements, and the lasting connections they have made throughout the practicum. This final gathering serves as a moment of reflection and appreciation for the valuable experiences gained during their stay at CLSU.

The program significantly enhanced my confidence, adaptability, and ability to navigate new cultural environments. I improved my English communication and teaching skills while building international friendships and engaging in collaborative learning with fellow participants and local teachers.

Beyond personal growth, this experience reinforced my commitment to lifelong learning and inspired me to continue developing my teaching abilities. I also learned the importance of cultural understanding, resilience, and stepping out of my comfort zone. Overall, the SEA Teacher Program was a life-changing journey that has prepared me to become a better educator and a more globally-minded individual.

Outcomes

Closing Statement

Overall, this program has been well-organized and highly beneficial, but there are still areas for improvement that could enhance the experience for future participants. The schedule was clearly structured from the beginning to the end, but in some instances, there were unexpected changes, requiring adjustments and flexibility. A more structured real-time coordination would help ensure smoother transitions when modifications are necessary.

Additionally, based on our discussions during the program, it would be more effective if participants received access to the learning materials and curriculum before the program started. This could be facilitated during the pre-departure meeting, where participants are introduced to their cooperating teachers and can discuss lesson plans and teaching topics in advance. Having this early preparation would help minimize last-minute workloads, allowing participants to focus more on their teaching experience and cultural immersion without the added pressure of completing tasks in a short timeframe.

THANK YOU!

In conclusion, the SEA Teacher Program has been a truly transformative and enriching experience, equipping participants with valuable teaching skills, cross-cultural understanding, and global collaboration opportunities.

I am deeply grateful for this opportunity and hope that future improvements will make this program even more impactful for the next generation of pre-service teachers. Thank you!
